Review: Warmachine Wrath

Wrath is the first expansion book for Mark II Warmachine. Following the same format as previous expansion books (Escalation, Apotheosis, Superiority & Legends) Wrath contains new units for all of the factions, as well as fiction that moves the setting forward.

Introduced in Wrath is a new unit type, the Battle Engine! Large based models, that come with powerful abilities, these units should change the way you play your force.

I'm only going to talk in broad terms about the new units in Wrath, mainly because I'm not fully conversant with Cygnar & Khador to do them justice.

As normal, the book is up to Privateer Press' high production standards. Available in both hardback and softback, its a full colour book with some amazing art work in. Each of the units have its own illustration, as well as page spreads between each sections and a 2 page photo gallery showcasing most of the new miniatures.

As normal there is a multi page piece of fiction that features existing characters in the setting, and moves the story line on a bit. To compliment this is more fiction in each of the faction sections, usually featuring the new Warcaster, as well as a short entry in the unit page. I thoroughly enjoyed all the fiction in the book, even for the factions I'm not playing. It does make you feel like you are playing in a living world, and it goes to reinforce the character of each of the units.

Each faction, including mercenaries, gets a new Warcaster, and the character jack relating to the caster. They also get a second character jack for one of their existing Warcasters. A nice new rule for the character jacks is Bonding, which means they can be used in any of the existing themed forces for that caster.
As well as the warjacks, there are new infantry units, unit attachements and solo's for every faction.

Of course, there are the Battle Engines. Each faction gets one, and costing 12pts (and around £50) each, these will end up being a major part of any force. The models for each, made from resin rather than metal or plastic, are quite awesome, but the rules don't quite match. I love the look of the Menoth one, but can't quite work my head around how to use it effectively.

Overall, I think its well worth picking up, especially if you are interested in the Warmachine setting.

I'll go over the new units at a later date, when I have the book in front of me for reference!
